Campaign
SAICM NGO Global Outreach Campaign:
The SAICM Global Outreach Campaign aims to connect and broaden the base of NGOs and Civil Society Organizations
(CSOs) that are working to raise awareness about the harms of toxic chemicals, and apply the Strategic Approach to
International Chemicals Management locally.
The overall campaign objectives are:
- Records 1,000 NGO/CSOs in 80 developing countries that have pledged to support effective SAICM implementation;
- Is used to enhance global NGO information exchange; and
- Serves as the basis of a report on civil society contributions at ICCM2 and future ICCM meetings.
Campaign Committee:
The concept of the SAICM Global Outreach Campaign was first introduced at the 2006 General Assembly of the International POPs
Elimination Network, but it was not until late 2007 that initial funding was secured to coordinate an Outreach Planning Committee
and begin Campaign development. The Committee consists of representatives from the following international NGO networks that are
registered as SAICM Focal Points:

NGO Common Statement
The Campaign will consist of a Common Statement, which will be used as an outreach tool and as a framework for educating NGOs and
CSOs about SAICM, and which will help expand the numbers, spread and types of NGOs globally engaged in chemical safety activities.
This Statement is available in all 6 UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) for broad distribution and use.

Educational Material:
A series of short pamphlets on different relevant topics, are being produced and will be disseminated in all six UN languages. The
following is a list of possible topics for the educational materials: SAICM Introduction; Chemicals and Health; Legislative and
Regulatory Reform; Pesticides; Toxic Metals; POPs; and Chemicals and Wastes.
