IPEN aims to play an active role in SAICM Prepcom2 to promote international chemical safety and management. Key documents related to IPEN efforts are available for downloading.
Last November at Prepcom 1, IPEN developed the 'IPEN Bangkok SAICM Statement,' which outlines 12 essential elements for achieving the SAICM goals.
In April 2004, IPEN Participating Organizations in Africa identified specific elements to the African Region and developed the 'Africa NGO/CSO Statement On The Strategic Approach To International Chemicals Management (SAICM).' Thereafter this African NGO Statement on SAICM is reflected in the results of the Africa Regional SAICM Development Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria (For more information see: http://www.chem.unep.ch/saicm/meeting/afreg/Default.htm )
In July the IPEN Steering Committee submitted comments to UNEP related to the \"Compilations\" Document,( SAICM/PREPCOM.2/2). View all submission on the SAICM 'Compilations' at: http://www.chem.unep.ch/saicm/meeting/prepcom2/saicm2_2comments/default.htm
PrepCom2 of the Strategic Approach on International chemicals Management (SAICM) will convene at United Nations compound in Gigiri, Nairobi, Kenya from October 4-8th. IPEN is expecting over 30 Participating Organizations from around the world to participate in this event. Furthermore the 2004 IPEN General Assembly will be held on October 3rd in Nairobi, prior to the opening of SAICM Prepcom 2, at the Panafric Hotel.
