Similarly as in previous days, villages around Neratovice did not get any information about a new leakage of chlorine from chemical plant Spolana. People in village Kozly only guessed there was a repeated chlorine escape due to hearing an alarm and seeing a cloud of pollutants moving towards their village.
We think it is time at least for interrupting chlorine-based production in the plant which endangers its surroundings. It is time to conserve the production and transform it to more environmentally friendly way of work. It is connected with a necessity to think about reduction o PVC use which would consequently reduce its dangerous production in Spolana, Jindrich Petrlik summarised ARNIKA's attitude in his reaction to another accident in Spolana. As he said further, ARNIKA will address minister of environment Libor Ambrozek with such requirement.
Spolana also endangers surrounding area by emissions of mercury and other toxic substances.
ARNIKA received the information about the latest chlorine leakage from an inhabitant of village Kozly near Elbe, who said there was a white cloud rolling on the village. Repeated emission of chlorine was also confirmed by the announcement of the third grade of chemical awareness (alarm) in the town Neratovice. It is going to bring permanent problems to local farmers. Their harvest, burned by repeated chlorine emissions, is worth to be thrown out, and it is a serious question whether the farmers can grow anything on their fields in future.
