PRIMARY INVENTORY OF OBSOLETE PESTICIDE STOCKPILES:

The PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN PRIMARY OBSOLETE PESTICIDE INVENTORIES seminar was organised by Eco-Accord Center in cooperation with NGO "Women Network in the Urals" on 24-25 January 2004 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Financial support for the seminar was provided by the International POPs Elimination Network and the New World Foundation.

The participants discussed such important issues as:

- Outcomes of official inventory of obsolete pesticides in Chelyabinsk oblast;
- Public involvement in the identification of illegal storage and use of obsolete and banned pesticides;
- Methodological Recommendations for Non-Governmental Organisations on Conducting Primary Inventories of Banned and Obsolete Pesticides, developed by experts of State Duma Committee on Ecology and Eco-Accord Center;
- Identification of pilot regions in Chelyabinsk oblast for application of Methodological Recommendations;
- Development of recommendations for further activities on public involvement in primary inventories of obsolete pesticides.

Over 50 experts, representatives of non-governmental organisations and decision-makers from various authorities took part in the seminar.
