The Phuket landfill/incinerator complex comprises of separate facilities for the incineration of municipal and medical wastes. Bottom ash/ clinker and fly ash from these operations has been dumped or stored in ash pits constructed within the boundaries of the complex. The storage area containing bottom ash residues was partly filled with water, giving it the appearance of a waste lagoon. Local mangrove swamps are also used for dumping these wastes.
