3rd- 7th: 6th Session of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal- Geneva, Switzerland. The 6th session of the OEWG will consider, inter alia: Basel Convention regional and coordinating centers; the establishment of a regional center for South Asia in the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme; technical guidelines on environmentally sound management of used tires; persistent organic pollutants; classification and hazard characterization of wastes; harmonization and coordination; and dismantling of ships. 15th-18th: 3rd GAIA Global Meeting. The Meeting will take place in Hondarribia, in the Basque province of Guipuzkoa (also spelled Gipuzkoa), Spain. The GAIA Global Meeting will address strategic issues and challenges facing the GAIA Membership regarding wastes, incinerators and alternatives. The host in Hondarribia will be the Ekologistak Martxan, a local member of the national grassroots federation Ecologists in Action. 18th-27th: Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticides Residues (JMPR), Geneva, Switzerland. This meeting will consider a list of substances scheduled for evaluation. The list has been prepared by the Joint FAO/WHO Secretariat of the Meeting and is based on recommendations of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR), previous Expert Meetings, and direct requests from governments, other interested organizations, and producers of substances that have been evaluated previously. World Environment Day - Centre for Environmental Justice.
POPs elimination was CEJ's main slogan for 2007 World Environment Day.
CEJ together with a group of environmental organizations joined the World Environmental Day 2007 celebration held in Kegalle, Sri Lanka. An exhibition supported by the UNDP was held from 5 - 6 June. The theme of the CEJ stall was educating people on “Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)”. Popular education material including posters relating to the use of Pesticides, Industrial Chemicals, and unintended byproducts were distributed among the public.

Chelyabinsk Seminar PRIMARY INVENTORY OF OBSOLETE PESTICIDE STOCKPILES:
Russia (Jan 24, 2004 - Jan 25, 2004)

The PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN PRIMARY OBSOLETE PESTICIDE INVENTORIES seminar was organised by Eco-Accord Center in cooperation with NGO "Women Network in the Urals" on 24-25 January 2004 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Financial support for the seminar was provided by the International POPs Elimination Network and the New World Foundation. The participants discussed such important issues as: - Outcomes of official inventory of obsolete pesticides in Chelyabinsk oblast; - Public involvement in the identification of illegal storage and use of obsolete and banned pesticides; - Methodological Recommendations for Non-Governmental Organisations on Conducting Primary Inventories of Banned and Obsolete Pesticides, developed by experts of State Duma Committee on Ecology and Eco-Accord Center; - Identification of pilot regions in Chelyabinsk oblast for application of Methodological Recommendations; - Development of recommendations for further activities on public involvement in primary inventories of obsolete pesticides. Over 50 experts, representatives of non-governmental organisations and decision-makers from various authorities took part in the seminar.
