PRTR and SAICM Global Plan of Action
During ICCM2 UNITAR with the support of UNECE organized a 90-minute side event on behalf of International PRTR Coordinating Group. The session, held on May, 11, discussed how pollutant registers and PRTR capacity-building undertaken by international partners contribute to the SAICM Global Plan of Action. The session featured the GEF global POPs PRTR project led by UNEP and UNITAR and Swiss, Russian and Georgian experience in developing national and local PRTR systems.
Eco-Accord and Volgograd-Ecopress, IPEN POs, made a presentation on the Role of Inter-sectoral partnerships in development of local and regional PRTRs.

  Eliminating Lead from Paint:
Despite the ban of lead based paints in Europe and North America in the 1970s and 1980s, today paint with lead is sold on the open market across the globe. In 2008 IPEN partnered with the Indian NGO Toxics Link to initiate a global campaign to eliminate lead from paint. In May 2009, at ICCM2, IPEN is aiming for the successful adoption of a Global Partnership to achieve this goal.
