Briefing Note: Enabling Progress Under the Global Framework on Chemicals

The Global Framework on Chemicals – For a Planet Free of Harm from Chemicals and Waste (GFC) is a comprehensive, multisectoral, and multistakeholder agreement that underscores the critical role of active participation from both governments and civil society across diverse sectors. As the sole international framework dedicated to addressing the majority of global concerns related to chemicals, it serves as a key platform for collective action. Although not legally binding, it reflects the shared commitments of governments and stakeholders that are essential to honor and implement.

This document outlines IPEN’s principles guiding its work for the GFC first Open Ended Working Group meeting (OEWG-1), taking place from June 24 to 27, 2025, in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
