Public awareness campaign on health and the Stockholm Convention: global day of awareness on POPs.
This report describes a one-day seminar, orchestrated by the Dreamers of Tomorrow, which focused on awareness-raising regarding the harmful effects of POPs in Egypt. Specialists in environment, chemistry, agriculture and health gave presentations to the attendees, who included decision-makers, agricultural and industrial managers, research centers, private sector, activists, academics, NGOs, university students, and the public. Invitees also included UNDP, UNEP and Ministries of Environmental Affairs; Agriculture; Investment; Industry; Technological Development; Health and Population. Topics covered were sources of POPs and their alternatives; POPs effect on environment and health; and Egypt's position on the Stockholm Convention. Mass media covered the seminar, and the results were disseminated nationally, regionally and internationally.
